Decker Diamond Jewelers is the premier jewelry store in the Johnstown and Altoona area for diamonds, creating moments that last a lifetime for over 30 years. Decker Diamond Jewelers began as Dan Decker and Fran Wilson's high school dream. In 1972 their marriage began and so did their goal.
Dan graduated from Gem City College in Quincy, IL as a Certified Master Watchmaker and accepted his first position at Law's Jewelry Store in Johnstown, PA. Soon, however Dan and Fran's adventure took them back to Quincy so Dan could teach at his Alma Mater. For two-and-a-half years he instructed watchmaking, jewelry repair, jewelry design and clock restoration at Gem City College before they purchased an old jewelry store in Carrolltown, PA in 1976 which started the humble beginning of D&F Jewelers.
After five years in Carrolltown, Dan and Fran moved their store to downtown Ebensburg, PA in 1981 and completed the coursework to become a Gemologist through Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Gemology Program. Shortly thereafter, he also successfully completed the requirements for the title of Certified Gemologist for American Gem Society (AGS) and in 1984 D&F Jewelers became an American Gem Society Store, a model of integrity and quality.
In March 2003, they celebrated the grand opening of their new freestanding store and new name, Decker Diamond Jewelers, to reflect the primary product in their store. The new location has three times the floor space of their previous location in town. Customers can now walk up to every display with ease.
Dan and Fran stress product knowledge and encourage all their employees to continuously train and successfully complete GIA courses and attend yearly Hearts on Fire training at Hearts on Fire University. These ongoing professional development programs enhance the skills and expertise of their staff to sustain the integrity of service on which the business has been built. Currently one staff member is pursuing her Graduate Gemologist (GG) accreditation through GIA and has also completed and passed the required coursework and training to grade diamonds for appraisals. --snip--
