Three days of all-breed dog shows and two days of obedience and rally trials are coming to the Weis Expo Hall at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Building.
The Blue & Gray Cluster Dog Shows, comprised of the Lebanon County Kennel Club, Harrisburg Kennel Club, and Mason & Dixon Kennel Club will be hosting shows on:
Friday, April 12, 2013 (Lebanon County Kennel Club)
Saturday, April 13, 2013 (Harrisburg Kennel Club)
Sunday, April 14, 2013 (Mason & Dixon Kennel Club)
Each day will feature an American Kennel Club (AKC) sanctioned all-breed dog show with more than 150 different breeds of dogs vying for Best in Show. Conformation judging determines which entry conforms most closely to the standard, or description, for its breed.
Obedience and Rally competitions will be held on Friday and Saturday. An obedience competition tests and scores a dog’s ability to perform a prescribed set of exercises, demonstrating the usefulness of a dog as a companion. Rally events are an opportunity for a dog to show its athletic abilities and demonstrate the bond that can develop between a well-trained dog and its owner.
On Saturday, the Harrisburg Kennel Club is hosting eye and microchip clinics from 9 AM – 3 PM. CERF eye exams are $38.00 per dog and both CERF and OFA registrations are available. Microchipping is $35.00 per dog and includes the microchip and first year of registration. Lifetime dog license forms will be available at the microchip clinic for those who are interested. No pre-registration is required.
My Dog Can Do That! and Meet the Breeds return again this year. These attractions, sponsored by the AKC, will run during the cluster. Additional details and schedules will be available on the Harrisburg Kennel Club’s website.
The Obedience Training Class of Harrisburg is sponsoring an all breed conformation fun match following Best in Show on Saturday.
More than two dozen vendors will be at the shows with canine-related items such as dog food and treats, canine art, clothing, and pet supplies. These vendors offer many unique items that can be found only at dog shows and provide everything a dog owner needs to make his/her dog happy and healthy.
Dog shows are the perfect opportunity to learn about different breeds of dogs and which breed might be ideal for your family. They offer a chance to speak with owners who are knowledgeable about both the pros and cons of their breed and to meet responsible breeders. For more information, be sure to stop by at Meet the Breeds.
Judging schedule information is available on the Rau Dog Shows website, www.raudogshows.com/jp.html, one week prior to the date of the shows.
As in past years, the Harrisburg Kennel Club will donate a portion of the net proceeds from this show to canine-related charities and local service groups. The Harrisburg Kennel Club, which purchased Zeke for the Harrisburg Police Department, has committed to donating a portion of the proceeds from the April show to the K-9 Unit in Zeke’s honor.
Under AKC regulations, only dogs entered in the show are allowed in the Farm Show building. For safety, no strollers will be allowed.
