The Johnstown Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to provide services to ALS patients, caregivers, and their families throughout Central and Western PA through The ALS Association Western PA Chapter and also helps to support cutting-edge research to find new treatments and a cure.
ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a fatal, progressive, neurodegenerative disease with no known cure. The average life expectancy of an ALS patient is 2-5 years after initial diagnosis.
The ALS Association is the only national not-for-profit organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS. The Western PA Chapter provides a multitude of services to persons living with ALS and their families within 31 counties in Western and Central PA. We also support an international research program, advocate for federal and state public policy, and educate medical professionals and the public about ALS.
